Editing Titles

For creating my titles I used Premiere Pro to edit the transitioning of it as it came on and off the screen; i made the titles look as if they were being typed onto the actual screen in which I thought would link really well with the narrative of my film. Here are some examples of what I decided the titles to look like:

Editing audio

After finally putting each clip together, I began experimenting with different sound effects that would match the actions in the video. I used a website called sounddogs.com to download some sound effects and surprisingly they fit well.

With more and more practice of audio editing, i included 2 more audio layers that included sound effects and a voiceover. At first i found it quite challenging to edit it in as i had to make sure that the audio was accurately in sync with the actions going on in certain scenes. I was also able to adjust the volume levels at different parts of the sequence.

Editing

Here is a snippet of my opening sequence editing, using Adobe Premiere Pro. It takes a lot of accuracy to get each scene to flow therefore I had to carefully put together each clip and cut the bits I did not necessarily need.

Below I have inserted the link to my script which I created, before filming, using Celtx:

Questionnaire

Here i have included my questionnaire and results that helped me with the production of my media product:

By carrying out further research i conducted a questionnaire in which I asked a group of 16-18 year olds about what they would expect in a mystery/drama film. These results will help me with the construction of my media product in order for me to gain an insight on my target audience would like to see. I found out the types of fonts, colour associations and what types of features people found important when it comes to the opening title sequence. Below i have included the results I collected from the questionnaire:

Age range:

  • Most of the people asked chose the 16-20 age range and the rest chose 21+; therefore for my main protagonist I will decide for them to be around the age of an older teenager/young adult
Colours:

  • The majority of the answers were black, brown, grey so I will therefore make sure to include a dull, greyscale colour theme in order to follow the conventions of a mystery/drama genre
Font:

  • All the people chose either the 2nd or the 4th font, which shows that they would expect the opening titles to be bold yet simple at the same time and no too animated. Therefore when creating the opening titles for my opening sequence i will try to keep the font simple but still eye catching, perhaps through the transition effects of it as well.
Audio:

  • For this question 100% of the students asked said that sounds effects are very important in an opening sequence for a mystery/drama film, however they did not think that dialogue was as important. I agree with this as the sound effects help to set the scene and build up the tension from the very start however i will also try to include some dialogue, maybe even a voiceover.
